WEST CHESTER, PA — The West Chester Police Department has announced it is accepting applications for the role of Chief Communications Officer (CCO), a senior leadership position that will oversee the department’s Communications Division and support its public information efforts.

The CCO will manage dispatch operations, supervise communications officers, and oversee technology critical to emergency response, including radio systems, computer-aided dispatch, and police records management platforms. The role also carries responsibility for training staff, ensuring compliance with protocols, and maintaining the division’s standard operating procedures.

Beyond internal operations, the position will play a visible role in community engagement. Working closely with the department’s Public Information Officer, the CCO will assist with media relations, public messaging, and crisis communications. The officer will also represent the department at community events and act as a liaison with Chester County 911 and emergency service partners.

Applicants must bring at least three years of experience as a public safety telecommunicator or dispatcher, with a background in law enforcement telecommunications strongly preferred. The position requires proven management skills, familiarity with emergency communications technology, and strong verbal and written communication abilities. FEMA ICS 300 and ICS 400 certifications, along with FEMA Basic PIO training, are also required.

The compensation range for the role is $70,000 to $80,000, depending on experience, and includes a comprehensive benefits package covering health, dental, vision, and paid leave. The position is designated as non-union exempt.
