Planned Tree Removal to Close Newark Road, Forcing Detours in Chester County

Traffic Restrictions

WEST MARLBOROUGH TWP, PA — Drivers in southern Chester County are being given advance notice of a daytime road closure later this month as PennDOT schedules tree removal work along a key local roadway.

PennDOT announced that Newark Road in West Marlborough Township will be closed during daytime hours beginning Monday, January 19, as crews carry out tree removal operations aimed at improving roadside safety. The work is scheduled to continue through Friday, January 23.

From 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM each day, Newark Road will be closed and detoured between Route 842 (Upland Road) and Route 926 (Street Road). During the closure, motorists will be directed to use Route 842 (Upland Road/Clonmell Upland Road), Route 841 (Chatham Road), and Route 926 (Street Road). PennDOT said local access will be maintained, but through traffic will not be permitted.

Officials warned that traffic delays and backups are likely on detour routes, particularly during late-morning and early-afternoon travel periods. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.

While the closure is temporary and limited to daytime hours, Newark Road serves as an important connector for residents, agricultural traffic, and commuters traveling between rural Chester County communities.

Motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and adjust travel schedules in advance of the January closure. For real-time updates on road closures, detours, and traffic conditions across Chester County and the surrounding region, readers are urged to visit the MyChesCo Traffic Center before heading out.
