CHESTER COUNTY, PA — Nighttime drivers on the Coatesville–Downingtown Bypass should brace for another round of disruptions as PennDOT continues base repair work along one of Chester County’s busiest corridors.
PennDOT said base repair operations will resume Tuesday, January 20, and continue through Friday, January 23, on westbound U.S. 30 as part of a $9.3 million project aimed at improving safety and extending the roadway’s service life through the City of Coatesville and Caln, Sadsbury, Valley, and West Caln townships.
From 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM each night, a lane closure will be in effect on westbound U.S. 30 between Route 340 (Bondsville Road) and Airport Road. PennDOT warned motorists to expect backups and delays during overnight hours and urged drivers to allow extra travel time. All scheduled activities are weather dependent.
The work is part of a comprehensive pavement preservation effort that includes milling the existing roadway, performing base repairs, applying a new bituminous overlay, reinstalling edge-line rumble strips, and reapplying pavement markings along the western section of the bypass.
Heidelberg Materials Northeast, LLC is serving as the general contractor on the state-funded project.
With nighttime lane restrictions continuing on a corridor that carries thousands of vehicles daily, motorists are encouraged to plan ahead and stay alert when traveling after dark.
