CHESTER COUNTY, PA — Drivers who rely on the Coatesville–Downingtown Bypass should brace for another week of overnight disruptions as PennDOT presses ahead with a critical reconstruction effort on one of Chester County’s busiest corridors.

PennDOT announced that base repair operations will continue next week on westbound U.S. 30 under a $9.3 million project aimed at improving safety and extending the life of the heavily traveled highway through the City of Coatesville and Caln, Sadsbury, Valley, and West Caln townships.

From Monday, January 12, through Friday, January 16, a lane closure will be in place each night from 8:00 PM to 5:00 AM on westbound U.S. 30 between Route 340 (Bondsville Road) and Airport Road. PennDOT warned motorists to expect potential backups and delays as crews work overnight. All activities are weather dependent.

The project involves milling the existing roadway, repairing deteriorated base material, applying a new bituminous overlay, reinstalling edge-line rumble strips, and reapplying pavement markings — a comprehensive effort designed to restore ride quality and enhance safety along the western section of the bypass.

Heidelberg Materials Northeast, LLC is serving as the general contractor on the state-funded project.

With nighttime lane restrictions returning to a corridor that carries thousands of vehicles daily, motorists are urged to plan ahead and remain alert as traffic patterns shift after dark.
