UPPER MERION TWP, PA — Drivers should prepare for nighttime lane restrictions along U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) this week as PA American Water begins relocating a water main in support of the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation’s (PennDOT) $22.4 million sinkhole remediation project in Montgomery and Chester counties.

From Monday, November 17, through Friday, January 9, lane closures will be in place weeknights from 8:00 PM to 6:00 AM between Henderson Road and Saulin Boulevard. One lane of traffic will remain open in each direction, with vehicles using the recently completed northbound lanes through the construction zone. Local access will be maintained, and all work is weather dependent.

This utility work marks a key step toward the second phase of PennDOT’s long-term stabilization efforts along U.S. 202 and Route 29. The project involves limited mobility grouting—injecting pressurized grout into a grid of drilled holes beneath the pavement—to fill subsurface voids and prevent future sinkholes. Additional improvements include drainage upgrades and full-depth pavement reconstruction.

PennDOT previously reopened the northbound section of U.S. 202 earlier this month following eight months of reconstruction. Phase two of the project is expected to begin in early 2026.
