EAST BRADFORD TWP, PA — A busy stretch of Route 52 in Chester County will be closed around the clock for more than six weeks as PennDOT advances a regional stormwater upgrade project expected to disrupt daily travel through East Bradford Township.
PennDOT said pipe replacement work will force a 24/7 closure of Route 52, also known as Bradford Avenue, between Tracie Lynn Drive and Rosedale Avenue from Monday, December 1, through Friday, January 16. The closure is part of a $15.9 million initiative to modernize stormwater management facilities on more than 90 state highways across the five-county Philadelphia region.
During the closure, motorists will be detoured via Birmingham Road, Route 926 (Street Road), U.S. 202 (Wilmington Pike), Business U.S. 322 (High Street), and Route 52 (Price Street). PennDOT said local access will be maintained, but drivers should expect delays and congestion on surrounding roads, particularly during peak travel hours. All work is weather dependent.
The project is aimed at improving drainage and reducing flooding risks on aging roadways, a long-standing concern across southeastern Pennsylvania. PennDOT officials said the work is necessary to maintain roadway safety and protect surrounding infrastructure.
Highway Materials, Inc. of Flourtown is serving as the general contractor. The project is funded entirely with state dollars.
With a prolonged closure on a key local route, drivers are urged to plan ahead and monitor traffic conditions closely.
