High Street Slowdowns Ahead as Business 322 Safety Upgrades Push Forward

Traffic Alert

WEST CHESTER, PA — Drivers in West Chester and West Goshen Township should prepare for another week of lane closures as PennDOT continues construction on the Business U.S. 322 (High Street) safety improvement project, a multimillion-dollar overhaul aimed at modernizing one of the borough’s busiest corridors.

PennDOT said weekday lane restrictions with flagging will be in place Monday, December 8, through Friday, December 12, from 9:00 AM to 3:00 PM, between Nields Street and Linden Street to allow crews to install lighting conduit. The agency cautioned that backups and slowdowns are likely throughout the work zone and urged motorists to build extra travel time into their schedules. All work is weather dependent.

The ongoing project includes major upgrades along High Street, including new traffic signals at University Avenue and Sharpless Street, updated signal support equipment, retroreflective backplates, LED lighting, pedestrian countdown timers, curb extensions, high-visibility crosswalks, stormwater improvements, and full-depth pavement restoration. The work will culminate in a complete resurfacing of the corridor.

Marino Corporation of Skippack is completing the $2.62 million federally funded project, which is expected to remain under construction through winter 2026.
