UPPER MERION TOWNSHIP, PA — A major sinkhole remediation project is set to shut down southbound U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) for more than a year, forcing drivers onto a full-time detour beginning Thursday, February 26.
At A Glance
- Roads Affected: U.S. 202 South (Dekalb Pike)
- Dates: Thursday, February 26 – Late Fall 2026
- Times: 24/7 Closure
- Reason: Sinkhole remediation and roadway reconstruction
PennDOT officials said southbound U.S. 202 (Dekalb Pike) will be closed around the clock between Prince Frederick Boulevard/Saulin Boulevard and Henderson Road as crews begin Stage 2 of a $22.4 million project aimed at long-term sinkhole repairs.
During the closure, drivers will be directed to use Saulin Boulevard and Henderson Road to reconnect with U.S. 202. Local access to homes and businesses will remain open, but motorists should expect congestion along the detour routes, particularly during peak commute hours.
The overall project also includes work along Route 29 (Morehall Road) in East Whiteland Township, Chester County. Northbound U.S. 202 between Henderson Road and Saulin Boulevard reopened Tuesday, November 4, 2025, following eight months of sinkhole repairs under Stage 1.
Commuters who rely on this corridor should plan extra time, seek alternate routes where possible, and prepare for shifting traffic patterns that could last into late 2026.
