CHESTER COUNTY, PA — The Pennsylvania Department of Transportation (PennDOT) announced that critical repairs will begin Monday, July 21, on the Dowlin Forge Road bridge spanning the East Branch of Brandywine Creek in Uwchlan and East Brandywine townships.
The project will require a full closure and detour of Dowlin Forge Road near its intersection with Route 282 (Creek Road) through Friday, September 26. During this period, drivers will be rerouted via Route 282, Dorlan Mill Road, and Shelmire Road. Local access will be maintained, but motorists should expect significant delays and are advised to allow additional travel time.
The 84-year-old bridge, which carries roughly 3,800 vehicles daily, will undergo steel, deck, and superstructure repairs to address aging infrastructure and improve safety. The current structure measures 103 feet in length and 28 feet in width.
Loftus Construction, Inc., based in King of Prussia, has been selected as the general contractor for the project, which is fully funded by state resources.
The improvements aim to ensure long-term reliability for residents and commuters who rely on Dowlin Forge Road as a key local connection.
