KENNETT SQUARE, PA — LCH Health and Community Services (LCH) welcomed administrators from the Avon Grove School District to its West Grove Health Center this week for a hands-on day of volunteering and resource-building for women and children in southern Chester County. The event, collaboratively organized with the office of PA Representative Christina Sappey, saw donations and efforts focused on meeting critical needs in the local community.
With nearly 5,000 Avon Grove students living within proximity of the West Grove campus, the health center offers a range of services, including primary care, pediatric care, women’s health, dental services, behavioral health, and social assistance. The partnership aims to address barriers to care and foster a stronger connection between schools and health care providers.
“By partnering directly with the schools of many of our patient families, we can create stronger community resources,” said Ronan W. Gannon, CEO of LCH Health and Community Services.
During the visit, the school administrators volunteered their time assembling diaper bags for expectant and new mothers, along with period care kits. These resources will benefit patients of the West Grove Women’s Health Center, as well as prospective pediatric patients. The administrators also toured the health center to gain a deeper understanding of its services and how to connect student families with essential care.
“We are grateful for the opportunity to partner with LCH in support of the families we serve,” said Dr. Scott DeShong, Superintendent of Avon Grove School District. “By working together, we can help remove barriers to care and strengthen the support that allows students to thrive both inside and outside the classroom.”
The volunteer efforts were bolstered by donations from Representative Christina Sappey’s office. Serving the 158th District, which includes the Avon Grove School District, Representative Sappey has been a steadfast advocate for improving community health.
“I am very grateful for the local community and Avon Grove School District’s support of our Expectant Families Supply Drive,” said Rep. Sappey. “These are essential personal care items, and unfortunately, they are very high-priced. The items collected mean young women won’t miss school because of their period, and new moms and babies get a healthy start.”
The collaboration between local leaders, health care providers, and educators exemplifies LCH’s mission to improve community health outcomes through accessible, high-quality care.
“These partnerships with school officials and elected representatives are great examples of the LCH mission in action,” added Gannon. “Together, we’re improving health outcomes for local children, parents, and families.”
LCH continues to engage with community leaders, business owners, and organizations in the Southern Chester County region to expand access to healthcare services and address pressing public health needs.
