WEST CHESTER, PA — Four unclaimed veterans from Chester County will be laid to rest with full military honors later this month at Washington Crossing National Cemetery, in a ceremony recognizing their service and sacrifice.
The Chester County Coroner’s Office will host the Unattended Veterans Service on Thursday, October 30, at 2:00 p.m. at 830 Highland Road, Newtown. The community is invited to attend.
The veterans being honored are Richard Decker of Downingtown Borough, who served in the U.S. Air Force; Lawrence G. Hayman Jr. of Upper Darby, U.S. Coast Guard; Robert Lee Minker of Reading Borough, U.S. Army; and Jeffrey Allen Perkins of East Vincent Township, also U.S. Army. Each died in Chester County without family to claim them.
The Patriot Guard Riders will escort the veterans from the Chester County Coroner’s Office to the cemetery. The ceremony will include the reading of each veteran’s name, presentation of the flag by the Pennsylvania Military Honors team, a rifle salute, and the playing of Taps.
The veterans will be interred in individual columbaria engraved with the words “Proudly Served.”
