WEST BRANDYWINE, PA — Packed audiences and standout resident performances helped Freedom Village at Brandywine raise $4,330 during its sixth resident-produced musical, “Guys and Dolls,” supporting employee scholarships and community outreach efforts.
The two-night production, held March 6 and 7, brought residents to center stage in a lively and laughter-filled performance that has become a cherished tradition within the community. Directed and produced by residents Fran and Maggie Doyle, the show featured a cast of residents — many stepping into the spotlight for the first time — who dedicated weeks of rehearsal to bring the classic musical to life.
Both performances drew full houses. Friday night welcomed residents and staff from across the community, while Saturday’s audience included friends and family members, creating a warm and celebratory atmosphere that extended beyond the stage.
The performances were free to attend, with donations collected and split evenly between the Freedom Village Scholarship Fund and the Freedom Village Outreach Fund. Both initiatives are fully resident-run, with the scholarship fund helping employees further their education and the outreach fund supporting local charitable organizations.
“The Village Players continue to show what makes this community so special,” said Danielle Geyer, executive director of Freedom Village at Brandywine. “These residents dedicated countless hours to learning, rehearsing and performing, all while raising meaningful support for programs that benefit our employees and the broader community. It is a remarkable example of passion, generosity and resident engagement in action.”
Thank You to Cast, Crew, and Supporters
Organizers credited the success of the production to the dedication of the resident cast, directors Fran and Maggie Doyle, and the many volunteers and staff members who supported rehearsals and performances. Appreciation was also extended to the audiences whose donations helped fund scholarships and outreach efforts.
With another successful production completed and funds raised to support both employees and local causes, the Village Players are expected to continue their tradition of resident-led performances in the year ahead.
