WEST BRANDYWINE, PA — Residents of Freedom Village at Brandywine came together in an extraordinary effort to support veterans experiencing food insecurity. What began as a modest goal of collecting 300 non-perishable food items grew into an outpouring of generosity, resulting in 1,548 donated items.

The initiative, led by the Freedom Village Veterans Group, took place on May 8. Residents were encouraged to place food donations outside their doors, which were later collected by a dedicated team of volunteers. The contributions were delivered to Lincoln’s Promise Food Pantry, a program supported by the Coatesville Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) and the Chester County Food Bank. This pantry was created to assist veterans in need of reliable food resources for themselves and their families.

“This effort, which was a resounding success, truly showcases the strong sense of camaraderie and compassion that defines our community,” said Danielle Geyer, Executive Director of Freedom Village at Brandywine. “With more than 80 veterans residing at Freedom Village, supporting fellow service members is deeply personal for many of our residents. It’s a way for them to continue their service by giving back to those who served.”

Lincoln’s Promise Food Pantry, established in 2022, plays a vital role in addressing food insecurity among veterans in the region. The donations from Freedom Village will directly benefit this mission, providing critical resources to those who served.

This donation drive is just one of Freedom Village at Brandywine’s ongoing efforts to foster a spirit of service and community engagement. The overwhelming response reflects the residents’ enduring commitment to making a difference for others.
