WERNERSVILLE, PA — A 34-year-old woman is facing theft charges after she was allegedly caught stealing a purse from a vehicle parked outside a Wernersville diner earlier this week, according to the South Heidelberg Township Police Department.
On Tuesday, August 5, 2025, at approximately 11:06 a.m., officers were dispatched to the Red Plate Diner at 440 East Penn Avenue following a report of a theft involving a firearm. Upon arrival, police secured the weapon involved and detained all parties for questioning.
Through interviews and on-scene investigation, authorities say they determined that the suspect, identified as Lilian Maldonado, had allegedly taken a purse from a vehicle in the diner’s parking lot. A male witness, who was dining inside the establishment, reportedly saw the theft taking place and immediately exited to confront the suspect.
As Maldonado attempted to leave the area in another vehicle, the purse was allegedly discarded. The vehicle then returned to the parking lot, where a verbal confrontation ensued until police arrived. Authorities later confirmed that the male witness lawfully possessed the firearm he had on him during the incident.
Maldonado has been formally charged with theft by unlawful taking and receiving stolen property. No injuries were reported during the incident, and police have not released additional information about the individuals involved.
As in all criminal matters, the charges against Maldonado are allegations. She is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
