Wilmington Woman Charged in July Shooting That Injured 24-Year-Old, Police Say

WILMINGTON, DE — A 23-year-old Wilmington woman has been arrested in connection with a July shooting that left another woman injured, city police announced.

The incident occurred on July 5, 2025, at approximately 12:23 a.m., when officers from the Wilmington Police Department’s Uniformed Services Division responded to reports of gunfire in the 1100 block of Pleasant Street. Upon arrival, officers learned that a 24-year-old woman had been shot and had already arrived at a hospital, where she was treated for her injuries and listed in stable condition.

The case was assigned to Detective Joran Merced of the Criminal Investigations Division. Following an investigation, police identified the suspect as Jada James and obtained warrants for her arrest.

On August 7, officers executed a search warrant in the 2600 block of North Monroe Street, where they took James into custody without incident.

James has been charged with second-degree assault, aggravated menacing, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, criminal mischief under $1,000, and discharging a firearm on a city street. She was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and committed to the Delores J. Baylor Women’s Correctional Institution on $23,600 cash-only bail.

The investigation remains ongoing, and authorities have not released additional details about the circumstances of the shooting.

As with all criminal proceedings, the charges against James are allegations. She is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
