WILMINGTON, DE — Authorities in Wilmington have apprehended a 23-year-old city man in connection with a shooting that occurred earlier this month in the 200 block of East 24th Street.
According to Wilmington Police, officers from the department’s Uniformed Services Division responded to reports of gunfire around 11:11 p.m. on July 11. Upon arrival, officers were informed that a 37-year-old male had suffered gunshot wounds and had already made his way to a local hospital. The victim was reported to be in stable condition.
The investigation was assigned to Detective Kevin Murphy of the Criminal Investigations Division. Over the following days, Detective Murphy identified Elyjah Elsayed, 23, as a suspect in the case. Warrants were subsequently secured for his arrest.
On July 19, members of the Uniformed Services Division located Elsayed in the 100 block of East 24th Street. He was taken into custody without incident.
Elsayed now faces several serious charges, including first-degree assault, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, and possession of a firearm by a person prohibited.
Following his arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, Elsayed was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution. His bail was set at $43,000 secured.
It is important to note that a suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
