Wilmington Man Caught With Loaded Gun and Drugs After Fleeing Scooter Stop, Police Say

WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington man is facing multiple felony and misdemeanor charges after a brief police pursuit on Friday led to the discovery of a loaded firearm and illegal drugs, according to the Wilmington Police Department.

Authorities say members of the Safe Streets Task Force were patrolling the 100 block of South Franklin Street at approximately 11:05 a.m. on July 18, 2025, when they observed an individual operating a motorized scooter in violation of traffic laws. Officers attempted to make contact, but the subject fled on foot.

Shortly thereafter, officers located the suspect—identified as 30-year-old Jacquez Robinson—in the 200 block of South Franklin Street. He was taken into custody without further incident. A subsequent search reportedly yielded a loaded .40 caliber handgun, 2.76 grams of heroin, and 2.9 grams of crack cocaine.

Robinson now faces a series of charges, including:

  • Two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited (felony)
  • Possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony (felony)
  • Carrying a concealed deadly weapon (felony)
  • Possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 2 quantity (felony)
  • Two additional counts of possession of a controlled substance
  • Resisting arrest
  • Unlawful operation of a motorized scooter

He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $33,200 secured bail.

It is important to note that all criminal charges are allegations, and a suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
