WILMINGTON, DE — A Wilmington man has been arrested and charged following an investigation that reportedly revealed illegal firearms and controlled substances.
On June 12, 2025, at approximately 10:42 p.m., officers from the Wilmington Police Department’s Uniformed Services Division conducted a traffic stop in the 1000 block of North Market Street. According to officials, the driver fled on foot but was apprehended after a brief pursuit.
The individual, identified as 25-year-old Niisaiah Carter, was taken into custody without further incident. During the investigation, officers reportedly recovered 1,076 grams of marijuana.
Subsequently, police executed a search warrant at a residence located in the 600 block of East 22nd Street. There, authorities reported discovering a loaded 9mm handgun, 23 grams of crack cocaine, and an additional 17 grams of marijuana.
Carter has been charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, possession of a controlled substance in both Tier 2 and Tier 1 quantities, and resisting arrest. Following his arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, Carter was committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $12,000 cash-only bail.
