Wilmington Man Arrested After Late-Night Burglaries on North King Street, Police Say

WILMINGTON, DEWilmington Police have arrested a 64-year-old man in connection with a series of burglary incidents that occurred earlier this summer.

According to authorities, the first incident took place on July 31, 2025, at approximately 1:49 a.m. in the 500 block of North King Street. A second burglary was reported on August 16, 2025, at approximately 4:22 a.m. in the 700 block of North King Street. Both cases were assigned to Detective Joran Merced of the department’s Criminal Investigations Division.

Through the course of the investigation, police identified James King as a suspect and obtained warrants for his arrest. On August 19, 2025, King was located in the 100 block of North Poplar Street and taken into custody without incident.

King has been charged with second-degree burglary, third-degree burglary, two counts of possession of burglar tools, theft over $1,500, and two counts of criminal mischief — one over $1,000 and one under $1,000.

He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $22,100 secured bail.

Authorities emphasize that all charges are allegations, and the defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
