WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have taken a 44-year-old man into custody in connection with a series of burglary incidents reported in recent weeks across the city.
Authorities say that on August 7, at approximately 11:06 a.m., officers responded to the 100 block of West 26th Street for a report of a burglary in progress. Upon arrival, police allege the suspect, identified as Alexis Martinez, fled on foot. After a brief pursuit, officers apprehended him without further incident.
Investigators later linked Martinez to several other burglary cases that occurred in recent weeks, including incidents in the 2900 block of North Van Buren Street, the 1000 block of West 25th Street, and the 1000 block of West 24th Street.
Martinez faces multiple charges, including five counts of third-degree burglary, four counts of theft over $1,500, four counts of criminal mischief under $1,000, and one count of resisting arrest. He was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $12,600 cash-only bail.
Police emphasize that a suspect is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
