WILMINGTON, DE — A 27-year-old man is facing multiple drug-related charges after fleeing from Wilmington police officers during an investigation last week in the city’s East Side neighborhood.
According to the Wilmington Police Department, the incident occurred on August 1, 2025, at approximately 9:55 a.m. when members of the Drug, Organized Crime and Vice Division, along with the Safe Streets Task Force, were conducting surveillance in the 800 block of North Pine Street. Officers reported observing a man, later identified as Isaiah Smiley, allegedly involved in suspected drug activity.
When investigators attempted to initiate contact, Smiley reportedly fled the scene on foot. He was apprehended following a brief pursuit. During the arrest, police say they recovered 4.89 grams of heroin, 2.85 grams of crack cocaine, and drug paraphernalia in his possession.
Smiley has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with the intent to deliver in a Tier 2 quantity, possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 2 quantity, a second count of possession with intent to deliver, resisting arrest, and possession of drug paraphernalia.
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and subsequently committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $31,001 cash-only bail.
All charges remain allegations at this stage. As with all criminal proceedings, the defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
