Weapon Found, Theft, and Hit-And-Run Reported in Busy Weekend

WYOMISSING, PA — Police responded to dozens of incidents across Wyomissing on Friday, March 27, and Saturday, March 28, including a reported weapon discovery, theft from a vehicle, and multiple hit-and-run investigations, according to Wyomissing Police.

Police reported the first incident at 12:02 a.m. Friday on Spring Street, where officers responded to a burglar alarm at a business. Upon arrival, police said the building was secure, but a pole behind the property was on fire and the matter was referred to the fire department and a utility company.

At 5:56 a.m. on Berkshire Boulevard, police said an alarm was accidentally triggered by an employee. Later, at 9:00 a.m. on Museum Road, officers responded to an automatic fire alarm that was handled by the fire department.

Police reported a non-reportable motor vehicle accident on Berkshire Boulevard at 11:03 a.m., where a vehicle struck an unoccupied parked car on private property. No injuries were reported and no vehicles were towed.

At 1:50 p.m., police documented a hit-and-run crash on Berkshire Boulevard that reportedly occurred the previous day, March 26. Information was collected and the investigation remains ongoing, police said.

Later that afternoon, officers responded to a report of a suspicious person on Penn Avenue at 2:04 p.m., but the individual was gone upon arrival.

At 4:07 p.m., police investigated a 911 hang-up call on Hill Avenue and determined there was no emergency. Minutes later, officers handled an injured animal call on Penn Avenue, where the animal was relocated to a wooded area.

Police said at 5:02 p.m. on State Hill Road, officers responded to a report of a person locked in a bathroom and screaming. Authorities determined the individual was experiencing a medical emergency, and the fire department handled the situation.

At 5:19 p.m., officers responded to a retail theft on State Hill Road. Police reported two individuals were stopped, and one person is expected to be cited for allegedly taking approximately $140 in merchandise.

Police also responded to a report of loud music on Park Road North at 6:22 p.m., where officers advised a resident to lower the volume.

At 7:09 p.m., officers were dispatched to Berkshire Boulevard after a weapon was reportedly found in a restroom. Police said the investigation is ongoing.

Additional incidents Friday included multiple traffic stops resulting in warnings, a disabled vehicle that was gone upon arrival, and a parking violation issued for misuse of a handicap space.

Early Saturday, March 28, at 12:27 a.m., police conducted a traffic stop at State Hill Road and Berkshire Boulevard for a turn-signal violation, issuing a warning.

At 12:54 a.m. on Route 222, police said a driver was cited for allegedly traveling 93 mph in a 55 mph zone. Additional citations were issued later for speeds of 75 mph in a 55 mph zone and 50 mph in a 30 mph zone, police reported.

At 1:45 a.m., officers attempted to stop a vehicle for multiple violations on Penn Avenue, but police said the vehicle fled at a high rate of speed. An investigation was initiated.

Shortly after, police encountered a male on Penn Avenue who requested transport for a mental health evaluation. EMS transported the individual to a hospital, according to authorities.

At 3:42 a.m., officers responded to a 911 hang-up on Dauphin Avenue and determined the call was accidental.

Later Saturday morning, at 9:56 a.m., police responded to Woodland Road for a report of theft from a vehicle, where a complainant reported money and headphones missing. The investigation is ongoing, police said.

At 3:00 p.m., officers conducted an aggressive driving enforcement detail on Reading Boulevard, issuing 18 citations and four warnings.

Police also responded to a report of a reckless driver on Route 222 at 3:18 p.m., but the vehicle was no longer in the area upon arrival.

At 5:16 p.m., officers responded to a verbal altercation on Berkshire Boulevard. Police said the individuals involved were separated and information was collected.

At 6:56 p.m., police responded to a hit-and-run on Park Road North. Information was gathered and the investigation remains ongoing.

At 7:28 p.m., officers responded to a harassment complaint on State Hill Road, where a complainant reported unwanted calls and text messages from an ex-boyfriend. Police said the individual was warned to cease contact.

At 8:41 p.m., police received a report of a missing juvenile on Bern Road. A bulletin was issued to surrounding law enforcement agencies.

At 10:43 p.m., police in West Lawn located the juvenile after the individual reportedly approached a residence on Telford Avenue seeking help.

Police handled numerous additional traffic stops throughout the evening, most resulting in warnings for violations including lighting issues, expired registration, and lane violations.

The final incidents of the night included a burglar alarm on State Hill Road just before midnight, where the property was found secure, and a disabled vehicle on Route 422 where officers assisted with traffic control while a tire was repaired.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
