HARRISBURG, PA — A Warren County man with a prior conviction for child exploitation has been sentenced to 18 to 40 years in prison after pleading guilty to multiple counts of possessing child sexual abuse material, Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced.

John Russell Castor, Jr., 36, of Sheffield, pleaded guilty to ten felony counts of possession of child sexual abuse material. In addition to the prison term, a judge ordered Castor to register as a sex offender for life.

“This defendant has had opportunities to reform his criminal behavior and has instead chosen to continually exploit and abuse children,” Sunday said. “This sentence guarantees the defendant will serve a lengthy prison term and be subject to lifetime registration and notification requirements with law enforcement.”

The investigation began after multiple tips indicated that between August and November 2023, a person uploaded and shared numerous files of child sexual abuse material. Investigators traced the activity to Castor’s residence, where they seized a tablet and cell phone containing hundreds of illicit files.

The case was prosecuted by Deputy Attorney General Alison Bragle with the Child Predator Section.
