WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have arrested a 25-year-old man on drug charges after officers located him nearly two weeks after a traffic stop in the city.
Police said members of the Safe Streets Task Force conducted a vehicle stop at approximately 5:20 p.m. February 14 in the area of North Tatnall Street and Martin Luther King Boulevard for traffic violations. Officers made contact with the driver, identified as Malik Winters.
According to Wilmington Police, officers recovered approximately 2.33 pounds of marijuana from the vehicle. Winters was released pending further investigation, police said.
On February 25 at approximately 9:00 p.m., officers located Winters in the 500 block of North Madison Street. Police reported officers confirmed Winters was currently wanted and conducted a pedestrian stop.
Winters was taken into custody without incident, according to police.
Police said Winters was charged with possession of a controlled substance — Tier 1, in addition to outstanding charges.
He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $1,150 unsecured bail on the new charge and $174,850 cash-only bail related to the outstanding charges, police said.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
