Wanted Man Arrested After Assault, Struggle With Police

WILMINGTON, DE — A man wanted on an out-of-state warrant was taken into custody following an assault investigation Thursday morning, police said.

According to Wilmington Police, officers responded at approximately 7:24 a.m. on March 19 to the unit block of West 11th Street for a reported assault.

Police reported that officers conducted an area canvass and located a subject matching the description near West 7th Street and North Market Street.

According to investigators, officers made contact with Damien Palumbo, 41, and took him into custody after he allegedly resisted arrest. Authorities said Palumbo was also wanted on an outstanding warrant out of Baltimore, Maryland.

Police reported Palumbo was charged with third-degree assault, resisting arrest, and second-degree criminal trespass.

According to authorities, he was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $8,000 cash-only bail. Police said he will also be extradited in connection with the Maryland warrant.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
