WILMINGTON, DE — A 33-year-old Elsmere man has been taken into custody following a multi-day search related to an aggravated menacing incident involving a firearm, according to Wilmington Police.
The investigation began on the evening of July 29, when officers responded to a report of an armed threat near 2nd and Dupont Streets. Authorities allege that Dejuan Craig, the suspect in the case, brandished a firearm during the altercation. Based on information gathered at the scene, patrol officers quickly identified Craig and obtained arrest warrants.
Despite multiple attempts to apprehend him over the following days—including two instances where police say Craig fled vehicle stops—officers were ultimately successful in locating him. On July 30, a report of a suspicious vehicle near Lancaster Avenue and South Van Buren Street led police to Craig’s vehicle, which was found unoccupied. Shortly thereafter, members of the Safe Streets Task Force located Craig walking in the 1200 block of Lancaster Avenue and arrested him without incident.
In addition to the outstanding warrants from other agencies, Craig now faces the following charges:
- Aggravated Menacing
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
- Two counts of Disregarding a Police Officer’s Signal
- Multiple traffic-related offenses
Craig was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 20 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $87,200 cash-only bail.
All charges are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
