NEW CASTLE, DE — Two individuals have been arrested and charged in connection with a violent assault last month on a grocery store employee in New Castle, Delaware, authorities announced this week. The alleged incident took place at a Food Lion location on June 20 and involved a group of eight individuals.
According to Delaware State Police, troopers were dispatched to the store at 1200 Beaverbrook Plaza around 1:30 p.m. after receiving reports of a physical attack on an 18-year-old male cashier. Investigators allege the victim was approached at his register by a group of unknown suspects, six of whom reportedly began punching and kicking him. Surveillance footage and witness accounts suggest one individual stood nearby holding a baby, while another appeared to record the assault on a mobile device.
The victim was knocked to the ground during the attack and reportedly lost consciousness while the assault continued. As the suspects fled the store, one allegedly issued a threat to return and kill the victim. They were seen leaving in two separate vehicles—described as a dark-colored Nissan Murano and a dark-colored Ford Taurus, both with Delaware license plates.
Through investigative efforts, police identified 19-year-old Christian Broaddus of New Castle and 20-year-old Khanasia Nash of Wilmington as two of the suspects involved. Warrants were subsequently issued for their arrests.
Broaddus surrendered to authorities at Delaware State Police Troop 2 on June 27. He faces several charges including felony second-degree assault, felony riot, felony conspiracy, terroristic threatening, endangering the welfare of a child, and disorderly conduct. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of a $17,100 cash bond.
Nash turned herself in at the same facility on July 15. She is charged with the same offenses and was released after posting a $6,600 secured bond.
Law enforcement officials have not released the identities of the other individuals involved, and the investigation remains ongoing.
As with all criminal cases, both Broaddus and Nash are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law. Authorities continue to urge anyone with information about the incident or the additional suspects to come forward.
