WALLINGFORD, PA — Authorities in Nether Providence are investigating an act of vandalism that caused damage to the recently renovated turf field at Gouley Park, a popular community recreation site.

According to Nether Providence Police, two circular burn marks—each approximately the size of a trash can lid—were discovered at center field on Saturday morning. Police believe the damage occurred sometime after Tuesday, August 5, based on the park’s usage in the days prior.

Chief David Splain confirmed that investigators are reviewing area surveillance footage as part of their ongoing efforts to identify those responsible. “We are also asking anyone with information to contact the police department,” he said.

Gouley Park, located at 101 Plush Mill Road, has recently undergone significant upgrades, including the installation of a multi-use turf field meant to serve local families, sports teams, and community events. The incident has raised concerns among local officials, who see the park as a valuable investment in neighborhood recreation.

Repairs to the damaged turf are being planned, and police are urging anyone with information to call the Nether Providence Police Department at 610-892-2875, dial 911, or submit a tip at netherprovidencepolice.org.

Vandalism investigations remain active until suspects are identified and charges, if warranted, are filed. Any potential defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
