Undercover Drug Probe Ends in Arrest After Police Seize Cocaine, Marijuana

WILMINGTON, DEWilmington Police have arrested a city man following an investigation into alleged illegal drug sales that culminated in a traffic stop earlier this week.

According to police, members of the Drug, Organized Crime and Vice Division began investigating 29-year-old Shamir Rice in October in connection with suspected drug distribution activity. On December 9 at approximately 12:30 p.m., officers conducted a vehicle stop in the 300 block of East 3rd Street and took Rice into custody without incident.

Police allege that during the stop, officers recovered approximately seven grams of crack cocaine and 84 grams of marijuana. The substances were seized as part of the ongoing investigation.

Rice has been charged with possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver and possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 1 quantity. All charges are allegations.

Rice was arraigned in the New Castle County Court of Common Pleas and released on $5,500 unsecured bail pending further court proceedings.

As in all criminal matters, a suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
