NEWARK, DE — Two teenagers have been charged after police say they crashed a stolen vehicle while attempting to flee officers in Newark last week.
According to the New Castle County Division of Police, the incident occurred on Friday, August 29, 2025, around 2:10 p.m. Patrol officers responded to the unit block of Fairway Road in Hunters Crossing after receiving reports of juveniles attempting to steal vehicles.
Authorities said the suspects arrived in a white Hyundai Sonata, which had been reported stolen from the same complex two days earlier. When an officer spotted the car and tried to stop it, the vehicle fled before ultimately crashing on Delaplane Avenue. Police said the occupants then ran from the scene.
Officers quickly secured the area and located two suspects, identified as a 15-year-old male from Wilmington and a 15-year-old female from New Castle. Both were taken into custody.
Charges Filed
The teenagers each face the following charges:
- Theft of a Motor Vehicle
- Attempted Theft of a Motor Vehicle
- Receiving Stolen Property (Value Over $1,500)
- Three Counts of Conspiracy (Second Degree)
- Criminal Mischief (Under $1,000)
- Criminal Trespass (Third Degree)
The two were arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and released on $3,051 unsecured bail.
Law enforcement officials stress that the case remains under investigation and that any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
