Triple Fatal Crash Raises Questions After DUI Charges Filed

WILMINGTON, DE — Three people were killed in an early morning crash Saturday, and a driver is now facing multiple felony charges, police said.

According to Wilmington Police, officers responded at approximately 4:18 a.m. to the area of 9th and Walnut streets for a serious motor vehicle collision.

Police reported that officers located a vehicle with three deceased occupants, identified as a 48-year-old male, a 35-year-old female, and a 41-year-old male.

Authorities said Nicholas Resto, 30, was identified as the driver of the other vehicle involved in the crash. Police reported he was taken into custody at the scene and transported to a hospital in stable condition.

The investigation was assigned to the department’s Special Operations Division Traffic Unit.

According to investigators, Resto was allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol and speeding at the time of the crash.

Police said Resto has been charged with three counts of manslaughter and one count of driving under the influence of alcohol, in addition to traffic citations.

Authorities reported he was arraigned and committed to the custody of the Delaware Department of Correction on $105,200 cash-only bail.

Police said the investigation remains ongoing and additional details will be released as they become available.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
