Traffic Stop Turns Into Chase: Stolen SUV Suspect Arrested After Crash in East Lansdowne

EAST LANSDOWNE, PA — A routine traffic stop in East Lansdowne led to the arrest of a Philadelphia man accused of driving a stolen vehicle and attempting to flee police, according to the East Lansdowne Police Department.

On August 5, 2025, at approximately 11:00 p.m., Officer Cosgrove observed a black Kia SUV traveling westbound in the 900 block of Baltimore Avenue with what appeared to be a fraudulent license plate. After initiating a stop in the parking lot of a Sunoco gas station, Officer Cosgrove, assisted by Officer Schailey, determined the vehicle had been reported stolen.

As officers attempted to take the driver, identified as 28-year-old Ahmad Stinson, into custody, police allege he accelerated in an attempt to escape. A short distance later, the Kia collided with another vehicle traveling along Baltimore Avenue. Authorities confirmed there were no injuries to the occupants of the second vehicle.

Stinson was arrested at the scene and transported to the George W. Hill Correctional Facility after failing to post $50,000 bail. He faces multiple charges, including aggravated assault, receiving stolen property, reckless driving, and fleeing or attempting to elude an officer.

All charges are allegations, and Stinson is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
