Three Wilmington Residents Arrested in Connection With Attempted Vehicle Thefts

NEW CASTLE, DE — Police have arrested three Wilmington residents, including a juvenile, in connection with a series of alleged attempted vehicle thefts in New Castle early Monday morning.

According to the New Castle County Division of Police, officers were patrolling near New Castle Avenue and Ryan Avenue around 4:30 a.m. on October 20, 2025, when they discovered two Kia vehicles with broken windows and damaged steering columns. While checking nearby neighborhoods, officers encountered three individuals walking down the middle of the road and stopped to investigate.

The suspects were identified as 19-year-old Ahjir Black, 18-year-old Ahmaj Boyd, and a 17-year-old male, all from Wilmington. Police determined that the three already had active no-contact orders with one another stemming from a previous arrest and were also wanted on multiple capiases. All three were taken into custody without incident and transported to New Castle County Police Headquarters.

Following interviews and a review of surveillance footage, investigators linked the trio to four separate attempted vehicle thefts in the area.

Black and Boyd were each charged with one felony count of noncompliance with bail conditions, four felony counts of attempted theft of a motor vehicle, four counts of second-degree conspiracy, four misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief, and one misdemeanor count of theft under $1,500. Both were arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $18,900 secured bail.

The 17-year-old was charged with four felony counts of attempted theft of a motor vehicle, four counts of second-degree conspiracy, four misdemeanor counts of criminal mischief, and one misdemeanor count of theft under $1,500. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 11 and held in lieu of $16,950 secured bail.

All defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
