Thefts, Gunfire Assist, and Welfare Calls Crowd Wyomissing Police Activity

Police news

WYOMISSING, PA — A wide-ranging mix of alleged thefts, traffic stops, emergency welfare checks, and assistance in a shots-fired investigation kept Wyomissing police officers busy from early morning through late night on Saturday, January 18, according to the department’s daily incident report.

Police logged 24 incidents throughout the borough, beginning shortly after midnight with traffic enforcement along Route 422 and Penn Avenue. Officers cited one driver for speeding and another for a registration violation, while additional motorists were warned for equipment and signaling issues during overnight stops on Penn Avenue and State Hill Road.

Just after 3:00 a.m., officers conducted a security check on Berkshire Boulevard after discovering an unsecured rear door at a business. Police cleared the interior and secured the door before leaving the scene. Minutes later, officers responded to an ambiguous 911 call from an assisted living facility on Tulpehocken Road, where staff reported a new resident experiencing confusion and believing he was being held against his will. Police determined no crime had occurred.

Before dawn, Wyomissing officers assisted Spring Township police with a shots-fired investigation on Wilson School Lane in Sinking Spring, transporting one individual involved in that incident at the request of Spring Township authorities. The circumstances of the alleged gunfire remain under investigation by that agency.

Later in the morning, police responded to a burglar alarm on Woodland Road, where an open door was found. Officers cleared the building and secured the property. Around the same area, officers later handled a trespass complaint involving a man who refused to leave a business past checkout; police said the individual ultimately gathered his belongings and waited for a taxi.

Several non-reportable vehicle crashes were documented throughout the day, including a minor accident on State Hill Road with no injuries and a separate incident on Larchwood Road where an unoccupied police vehicle was struck by another car backing out of a driveway. Information was exchanged, and no injuries were reported.

Police also investigated an alleged fraud complaint on Farr Road after a resident reported discovering an unauthorized charge for a phone line on her credit report. That case was listed for follow-up investigation.

Emergency medical responses made up several afternoon calls, including a medical assist on Timberline Drive and a medical pendant activation on State Hill Road, both of which were handled with assistance from fire and EMS crews.

Public safety calls continued into the evening, including a report of a confused man walking toward traffic on Woodland Road. Police provided a courtesy transport back to his residence after EMS evaluated him. Officers also responded to a reckless driver complaint on Route 222, though only a general vehicle description was provided.

An alleged theft was reported in the early evening on Hill Avenue, where a resident told police that two packages valued at approximately $172 were stolen. Officers documented the incident for follow-up investigation.

The night concluded with additional traffic enforcement, a 911 hang-up call on Woodland Road that was cleared without incident, and a malfunctioning traffic signal discovered on Penn Avenue, which was reported to the telephone company for repair.

Police emphasized that all incidents involving criminal conduct remain allegations and are subject to further investigation. Any individual identified as a suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
