Teens Accused of Carrying Machine Guns on Philly Transit Bus

arrested

PHILADELPHIA, PA — Two Philadelphia residents, aged 19 and 18, have been indicted on charges of machine gun possession following an investigation by local and federal authorities. The United States Attorney’s Office announced the arrests of Kysem Humphrey, 19, and Jayquan Jett, 18, alleging the two were in possession of modified, fully automatic firearms.

The charges stem from an incident on December 17, 2024, when officers from the Philadelphia Police Department reportedly discovered personally manufactured firearms on the defendants. According to the indictment, the weapons had been modified to function as fully automatic machine guns. Authorities stated the firearms were concealed under the clothing of the defendants, who were apprehended after boarding a SEPTA transit bus.

The subsequent investigation involved collaboration between Philadelphia police, SEPTA Transit Police, and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF). The case has been taken up by federal prosecutors, with Special Assistant United States Attorney Meagan Gordon leading the prosecution.

If convicted, Humphrey and Jett each face a maximum penalty of up to 10 years in federal prison on charges related to the possession of machine guns.

Authorities emphasized that the charges are allegations, and the defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law. Further details about the case and the circumstances surrounding the alleged incident are expected to emerge as the legal process continues.
