NEWARK, DE — Authorities in Newark have charged two juveniles in connection with a series of vandalism incidents reported on the evening of May 17, 2025.
The Newark Police Department responded to the first call at approximately 9:54 PM in the 500 block of Briar Lane, where items on a resident’s property were damaged. While investigating, officers received a second report of property damage involving a broken window on Barksdale Road.
Officers located two suspects matching descriptions provided by witnesses. The individuals, ages 14 and 15, were detained without incident near the scene. Subsequent investigation linked them to both reported cases, as well as a third incident of property damage on Briar Lane.
Charges filed against the juveniles include trespassing, criminal mischief, and conspiracy. The 15-year-old also faces an additional charge of carrying a concealed deadly weapon after being found with a large fixed-blade knife.
After arraignment, the juveniles were released to their parents under court-imposed conditions. The 15-year-old received a no-contact order with the State of Delaware and the co-defendant, along with unsecured bail set at $2,250. The 14-year-old was released on their own recognizance under similar conditions.
Police have identified a pattern of similar vandalism in the area dating back to late 2024 and are continuing investigations. Individuals with relevant information are urged to contact Detective Sergeant James Skinner at (302) 366-7100 ext. 3135.
