Teen Shot Sparks Arrest of Three in Apartment Chaos

WILMINGTON, DE — Three people, including a juvenile, have been charged in connection with a January shooting at the Paladin Club Apartments that injured a teenage girl, according to the New Castle County Division of Police.

Police said officers responded at approximately 9:16 p.m. January 12 to the 8600 block of Park Court for a report of a shooting in progress.

According to investigators, an altercation occurred outside the apartment complex during which gunfire struck a 15-year-old female. Police said the teen sustained a gunshot wound to her lower body. Officers rendered medical aid until paramedics arrived, and she was transported to a local hospital, where she was treated and released.

Authorities said debris from the incident caused a minor injury to a 44-year-old female, who was evaluated at a hospital as a precaution and later released.

Police reported that a 16-year-old male who was in the area fled after the altercation but was later located and found to be uninjured.

Detectives from the Division’s Major Crimes and Evidence Detection units investigated and identified 18-year-old Tristan Miller of Newark, 19-year-old Jhanir Fair-Cook of Wilmington and a 15-year-old male from New Castle as suspects, police said. The three were taken into custody January 28 at their respective residences without incident.

Miller is charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of first-degree reckless endangering, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, possession of a firearm by a person prohibited and second-degree conspiracy, according to police. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $54,000 secured bond.

Fair-Cook is charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of first-degree reckless endangering, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and second-degree conspiracy, police said. He was arraigned in Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution in lieu of $55,000 secured bond.

The 15-year-old male, whose name was not released due to his age, is charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of first-degree reckless endangering, possession of a firearm by a person under 21, possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony and second-degree conspiracy, according to police. He was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and committed to a juvenile detention center in lieu of $64,999.97 bail.

All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
