Teen Robbed During Sneaker Trade Near William Penn High School, Police Say

NEW CASTLE, DEDelaware State Police are investigating a robbery that occurred Tuesday afternoon near William Penn High School, involving a teenage victim and an alleged scheme to steal high-end sneakers during a planned trade.

According to authorities, the incident took place around 3:00 p.m. on July 22, 2025, in the vicinity of East Basin Road in New Castle. Troopers responded to a report of a robbery involving a 15-year-old male victim, who had reportedly arranged to meet two other teenagers for a sneaker exchange.

During the meeting, one of the two unidentified suspects allegedly asked to inspect the sneakers. When the victim handed them over, the suspect is said to have struck the teen, forced him to the ground, and grabbed the bag containing the shoes. Both suspects then fled the scene on foot toward the nearby high school.

The victim was not injured during the encounter, police said. No weapons were reported to be involved.

At this time, the suspects are only described as two unknown teenage males. Investigators have not released surveillance footage or additional identifying details.
