NEW CASTLE, DE — A 17-year-old male has been taken into custody after New Castle County Police allegedly found a loaded handgun with a 3D-printed lower receiver during a pedestrian stop over the weekend.
Police said the incident occurred on Saturday, November 29, at approximately 1:30 p.m., when C-Squad Patrol Officers encountered two individuals near Airport Road and Appleby Road. The teens were believed to match the descriptions of suspects connected to a criminal incident reported the previous day.
Officers conducted a stop and identified the individuals as a 17-year-old male and a 16-year-old male. According to investigators, the older teen began acting erratically during the encounter, prompting officers to detain him pending further investigation. Police reported that the teen physically resisted, leading to a brief struggle before he was brought under control.
Once he was detained, officers allegedly discovered a loaded 9mm handgun tucked into his waistband. The firearm, which police said included a 3D-printed lower receiver, contained a 10-round magazine and a round chambered.
The 16-year-old male was not charged and was released at the scene.
The 17-year-old has been charged with two felony counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited; one felony count each of possession of a firearm and possession of ammunition by a person under 21; one felony count of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony; one felony count of carrying a concealed deadly weapon; and one felony count of resisting arrest.
He was arraigned before Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center after failing to post $65,000.00 cash bail.
Police stressed that all crimes referenced are allegations, and the juvenile is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
