WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have arrested a 16-year-old male juvenile in connection with a fatal shooting that claimed the lives of two Newark teenagers earlier this month.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on October 8, 2025, at approximately 5:07 p.m., when officers responded to the area of 6th and North Pine Streets for reports of gunfire. Upon arrival, police discovered two male victims suffering from gunshot wounds.
One of the victims, identified as 16-year-old Nathan Lopez of Newark, was pronounced deceased at the scene. The second victim, 17-year-old Kaleb Blumberg, also of Newark, was transported to a nearby hospital in critical condition, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
The case was assigned to Detective Justin Wilkers of the Wilmington Police Department’s Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation, Detective Wilkers identified a 16-year-old male as a suspect. On October 13, the case was presented to a New Castle County Grand Jury, which returned an indictment.
The suspect was taken into custody on October 14 and charged with two counts of first-degree murder, two counts of possession of a firearm during the commission of a felony, two counts of wearing a disguise during the commission of a felony, and one count of possession of a firearm by a person prohibited.
He was arraigned in New Castle County Superior Court and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $2,030,000 cash-only bail.
All individuals charged with a crime are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
