WILMINGTON, DE — A 17-year-old male juvenile is facing multiple firearm-related charges following a reported shots fired incident Wednesday morning in Wilmington.
According to Wilmington Police, officers responded at approximately 11:05 a.m. on March 25 to the 1600 block of West 6th Street for reports of gunfire. Officers reported observing two male juveniles fleeing the area into the 500 block of North Scott Street.
Police said officers attempted to make contact with the juveniles, at which point one fled on foot. A short time later, the 17-year-old male juvenile was taken into custody without further incident. Officers reported recovering a loaded 9mm handgun.
Through the course of the investigation, police said it was determined that two unidentified suspects allegedly fired multiple rounds toward the two juveniles, and the 17-year-old allegedly returned fire.
According to authorities, the juvenile has been charged with two counts of possession of a firearm or ammunition by a person prohibited, possession of a weapon with an obliterated serial number, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and resisting arrest.
Police reported the juvenile was arraigned in New Castle County Family Court and committed to the New Castle County Detention Center on $41,000 cash-only bail.
The investigation remains ongoing, and police said anyone with information is encouraged to contact the Crime Gun Intelligence Center at 302-654-5151.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
