WILMINGTON, DE — A 19-year-old man has been charged after police say a 20-year-old man was injured during an alleged confrontation involving a hatchet early Tuesday in the Bellefonte community.
According to the New Castle County Division of Police, officers responded at approximately 4 a.m. February 24 to the 500 block of Maple Avenue for a report of an injured person.
Police stated officers located a 20-year-old male with a deep wound to his hand. A responding officer applied a tourniquet to control bleeding until Emergency Medical Services arrived. The victim was transported to a local hospital for treatment and was later released, authorities said.
Detectives with the Criminal Investigations Unit responded and assumed the investigation. According to police, investigators determined the incident allegedly stemmed from an online argument between the victim and Logan Albright, 19, of Wilmington.
Police allege Albright went to the victim’s residence carrying a hatchet and confronted him in the front yard. During the encounter, authorities said, the victim’s hand was allegedly struck with the hatchet, causing the injury.
Police reported Albright also sustained minor injuries and sought treatment at a local hospital, where detectives made contact with him. After being released, he was taken to New Castle County Police Headquarters and charged with first-degree assault, possession of a deadly weapon during the commission of a felony and third-degree criminal trespass.
According to police, Albright was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 11 and committed to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution on $80,050 cash bail.
All suspects, arrestees, and defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
