Teen Caught With Loaded Gun After Late-Night Marijuana Stop in Newark

NEWARK, DE — A Wilmington teenager has been arrested after Newark Police say he was found in possession of a handgun while allegedly smoking marijuana in public early Sunday morning.

According to the Newark Police Department, officers were working alongside agents from the Delaware Division of Alcohol and Tobacco Enforcement (DATE) around 12:40 a.m. on November 2, 2025, to disperse large groups loitering along the sidewalk of a shopping center in the 200 block of East Main Street.

During the operation, police made contact with 18-year-old Ze’vion Ward of Wilmington, who was allegedly observed smoking marijuana in a public area. Investigators said that a subsequent search revealed a concealed handgun equipped with an extended magazine containing seven rounds of .380 caliber ammunition tucked into Ward’s waistband.

Ward was taken into custody without incident. He has been charged with carrying a concealed deadly weapon, consumption of marijuana in a public area, and possession of marijuana, which is classified as a civil violation.

Following arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court #11, Ward was issued $5,150 secured bail and transported to the Howard R. Young Correctional Institution.

Police reminded the public that all defendants are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
