NEW CASTLE, DE — A 17-year-old from New Castle is facing multiple felony gun and drug charges after Delaware State Police say he was stopped for speeding at 100 miles per hour on State Route 1 and found in possession of a stolen firearm and marijuana.
According to authorities, the incident occurred on August 13, 2025, at approximately 12:40 p.m., when a trooper from the Highway Safety Unit observed a gray Honda Civic with dark tinted windows traveling northbound at high speed, just north of Wrangle Hill Road.
Police say the driver, who was not wearing his seatbelt properly, was stopped without incident. During the encounter, the trooper reported smelling and seeing marijuana inside the vehicle, which is illegal for a juvenile to possess.
A subsequent search allegedly uncovered approximately 258.25 grams of marijuana, a loaded handgun with an extended magazine concealed inside the vehicle, drug dealing paraphernalia, and more than $500 in suspected drug proceeds. Investigators say the firearm had been reported stolen by Wilmington Police in July 2025.
The teen was taken to Troop 2, where he was charged with possession of a firearm and ammunition by a person under 21, possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, carrying a concealed firearm, receiving a stolen firearm, possession of a controlled substance in a Tier 1 quantity, possession of drug paraphernalia, and related traffic offenses.
Following arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, he was released to a parent or guardian after posting $11,900 secured bond.
Police remind the public that a suspect is presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
