WILMINGTON, DE — Wilmington Police have charged a 17-year-old male juvenile with multiple offenses after he was allegedly found in possession of a loaded handgun while setting off fireworks on July 4.
According to officials, at approximately 9:40 p.m., officers were patrolling the area of Justison Street and Harlan Boulevard when they observed a male subject engaging in the use of fireworks. Police approached the individual and identified him as a 17-year-old male juvenile.
During their interaction, officers discovered that the juvenile was in possession of a loaded .40 caliber handgun. The teen was taken into custody without incident at the scene.
The juvenile has since been charged with possession of a firearm by a person prohibited, carrying a concealed deadly weapon, and disorderly conduct. Following arraignment in Justice of the Peace Court 11, he was released on $7,750 unsecured bail pending further legal proceedings.
All charges are allegations, and the juvenile defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
