EDGEMOOR, DE — Delaware State Police have arrested a 15-year-old male from Elkton, Maryland, in connection with a robbery and attempted carjacking that occurred last month at Merchants Square shopping center. Two additional suspects remain at large as investigations continue.
The incident took place in the early hours of April 14, 2025, at approximately 1:33 AM, when troopers were called to the shopping center, located at 4405 Governor Printz Boulevard, for reports of a robbery and attempted carjacking. Investigators revealed that three male suspects approached multiple victims who were in their vehicles in the parking lot. The suspects, who arrived in a black Chevrolet Equinox driven by an unknown male, demanded money and personal belongings from the victims.
During the robbery, one of the suspects forcibly entered a vehicle, leading to a physical struggle with its occupants. The suspects ultimately fled on foot with an undisclosed amount of cash and the victims’ personal property. Meanwhile, the driver of the Equinox was seen entering the passenger side of an unknown blue SUV, which fled the scene heading north.
On April 16, 2025, detectives identified and arrested the driver of the Equinox. Further investigative efforts led police to the 15-year-old suspect, for whom a warrant was issued in connection with the robbery. Wilmington Police located and arrested the 15-year-old on May 9, 2025, taking him into custody without incident. The suspect was transported to Troop 2, where he was charged with the following offenses:
- Robbery 1st Degree (Felony)
- Robbery 2nd Degree (Felony) – 2 counts
- Attempted to Commit Robbery 2nd Degree (Felony)
- Conspiracy 2nd Degree (Felony)
The teen was arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 11 and subsequently detained at the New Castle County Detention Center on a $38,500 secured bond.
Investigators are still working to identify the remaining suspects, described as young Black males, and are seeking the public’s assistance. The Delaware State Police emphasized that the ongoing investigation aims to bring all responsible parties to justice. It is important to note that the suspects are presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
