Stolen Van Chase Crosses State Line Before Dramatic Stop at Delaware Wawa

Arrested

LINWOOD, PA — Lower Chichester Township police say a reported stolen vehicle was tracked by license plate readers Tuesday afternoon, leading to a multi-jurisdictional response that ended with an arrest after the vehicle crossed into Delaware.

According to the Lower Chichester Police Department, officers were alerted at approximately 4:23 p.m. on Tuesday, December 30, 2025, that a vehicle reported stolen earlier that day in the City of Chester was traveling westbound on Ridge Road near its intersection with Market Street. The alert was generated by the department’s license plate reader system.

Police said officers attempted to locate and intercept the vehicle while navigating heavy traffic. An officer eventually made visual contact with the vehicle, described as a white Mercedes-Benz work van, as it passed Blueball Avenue and continued westbound toward the Delaware state line.

With emergency lights activated, the officer attempted a traffic stop once traffic conditions permitted. Authorities allege the vehicle failed to stop and continued into Delaware. After traveling a short distance farther, the vehicle reportedly came to a stop at the intersection of Route 92 before pulling into the parking lot of a Wawa convenience store.

Police said a secondary officer arrived at the scene, and the two conducted a felony traffic stop. The driver, identified as Riyad H. Hussein, was removed from the vehicle along with a passenger. Due to jurisdictional limits, Delaware State Police responded and took Hussein into custody.

Authorities said Hussein was charged in Delaware to facilitate extradition back to Pennsylvania. He later posted bail on the Delaware charge and is now awaiting a hearing to answer to a charge of receiving stolen property in Pennsylvania. The passenger was checked by police and released at the scene.

The incident originated in the 1000 block of West Ridge Road in Linwood. The arrest occurred on December 30, 2025.

All charges referenced are allegations. Any suspect, arrestee, or defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
