HUNTINGDON VALLEY, PA — A routine traffic stop led to an arrest after Lower Moreland Township police reported discovering a stolen registration plate during an investigation last week.
On September 26, 2025, officers stopped a purple Ford Edge in the 3500 block of Huntingdon Pike. According to investigators, the vehicle was displaying a registration plate that had been reported stolen to the Upper Darby Police Department.
Police said further checks revealed inconsistencies between the vehicle’s registration, its physical VIN, and the information provided in the NCIC alert tied to the stolen plate. Officers also determined that the individual listed on the registration card was not the driver of the vehicle.
The operator was identified as 48-year-old Sherrie Hewett, who was taken into custody. Hewett faces charges including receiving stolen property and driving with a suspended license.
She was processed following her arrest. Additional details on bail or upcoming court proceedings were not immediately available.
Authorities emphasized that all defendants are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
