SINKING SPRING, PA — Police in South Heidelberg Township are urging residents to take extra precautions following a string of vehicle break-ins and a reported car theft in the community this past week.
In a statement, the South Heidelberg Township Police Department (SHPD) acknowledged the recent incidents and emphasized the importance of proactive safety measures to reduce the risk of becoming a victim of property crime. Authorities are encouraging residents to adopt what they call the “9 PM Routine,” a nightly practice of checking vehicles, homes, and property before going to bed.
Police outlined several key steps for vehicle security, including removing key fobs from inside cars, locking all vehicle doors, rolling up windows, and keeping valuables out of sight. Officers cautioned that even seemingly minor items, such as wallets, purses, electronics, or loose change, could make vehicles attractive targets for thieves.
SHPD also advised homeowners to double-check garage doors, sheds, and entry points to their homes each night to ensure they are locked and secure.
“Taking a few minutes before bed to follow this routine can prevent unnecessary headaches and heartache,” the department said in its public message, calling on residents to work together to strengthen community safety.
Police remind the public that any suspects identified in connection with these incidents are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
