Somerset County Sheriff Charged After Alleged Misconduct at Youth Event

Pennsylvania State Police

HARRISBURG, PA — Pennsylvania Attorney General Dave Sunday announced that Somerset County Sheriff Dustin Weir has been charged with corruption of minors following an alleged incident involving a teenage girl during a community event last year.

Weir, 46, was charged Thursday by Pennsylvania State Police with misdemeanor corruption of minors. The charges stem from an alleged encounter that took place in December 2024 during a “Shop with a Cop” event at a Walmart store.

According to the Office of Attorney General, Weir allegedly pressured a 15-year-old girl, who was assisting at a photo booth, to accompany him to a store aisle where condoms were displayed. Investigators allege that once there, Weir attempted to take a photograph of the girl next to the display and made sexually explicit comments and questions, including remarks about what he would do if he were her boyfriend.

Attorney General Sunday said in a statement that such behavior by a law enforcement leader undermines public trust, emphasizing that “criminal behavior will not be tolerated, regardless of occupation, title, or rank.”

The girl, whose identity is being withheld to protect her privacy, later reported the encounter to law enforcement.

Weir has been mailed a summons to appear for a preliminary arraignment and hearing. The case will be prosecuted by Senior Deputy Attorney General Alicia Werner.

All charges are allegations, and Weir is presumed innocent until proven guilty in a court of law.
